Medicare Open Enrollment Coming Soon! Is It Time To Update Your Plan?
Yvonne C. Tepsick, President, Tepsick Insurance Agency
Medicare Open Enrollment is from October 15 – December 7
Each year, you get the opportunity to make changes to your Medicare insurance coverage and prescription drug plan during open enrollment. This is the only time you can make any necessary changes to your plan.
If you like where you are and your plan is working well for you, you don’t have to do a thing!
Look for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by the end of September outlining any changes in your current medical or drug plans.
Now is the time to assess your health needs in preparation for any changes to your coverage. Here are some reasons you may want to review your current coverage and alter your Medicare health and/or drug plans:
Your current Medicare plans are no longer providing coverage in your location
You need to choose between:
Medicare Advantage Plan – no premium and
when you use it, or
Original Medicare and Supplemental Plans – a premium and low to no costs when you use it
Your favorite healthcare provider has left your plan’s network and you still want to use him or her
You developed a new medical condition that will eventually require surgery or prescription drugs
Your current medications have changed since last year or your plan is eliminating any of those medications from their formulary in 2018
You think you need better coverage in the New Year
This year, it’s especially important to take a good, long look at your Medicare coverage. Medicare changes annually.
So what types of changes can you make to your medical and/or prescription drug plans? Depending upon your health needs, there are several options available to you:
Convert from a Medicare Advantage plan to Original Medicare with supplemental insurance and a drug plan
Change from Original Medicare Part A and B to a Medicare Advantage plan
Move from one Medicare Advantage plan to one that offers you more
Get a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage
Move from one Medicare prescription drug plan to another, one that offers better coverage
