Travel Insurance & Medical Coverage for International Trips

Protect yourself from unexpected medical expenses and travel-related disruptions with coverage designed for temporary trips outside the United States.

PROTECTION BEYOND HOME

Travel Medical Insurance for the Unexpected

Traveling internationally should be exciting—not stressful because of what could go wrong. Travel medical insurance can provide important protection when an unexpected illness, injury, medical emergency, or travel disruption occurs while you are outside your home country.

Tepsick Insurance can help you understand your travel coverage options and determine whether a Single Trip Platinum plan may fit your upcoming international trip. The plan provides coverage for eligible medical expenses outside the United States, along with benefits for emergency transportation, trip interruption, baggage and personal effects, prescription drugs, and more.

Coverage is subject to eligibility requirements, benefit limits, exclusions, and the terms of the Certificate of Coverage.

WHAT YOUR PLAN MAY INCLUDE

Emergency Medical Coverage

Coverage is available for eligible medically necessary services resulting from covered illness or injury while traveling outside the United States. Professional services and inpatient hospital services may be covered at 100% of Reasonable Charges after any applicable deductible, subject to the plan's maximum benefits.

Emergency Medical Evacuation

If a sudden accident or unforeseen illness creates a life-threatening or limb-threatening medical condition and adequate medical facilities are not available locally, the plan may arrange emergency evacuation to an appropriate facility. Emergency medical transportation benefits can reach $500,000 per Trip Period, subject to the plan terms.

Emergency Family Travel

If you are traveling alone and become hospitalized or are expected to be hospitalized for more than seven days or are in critical condition, the plan may provide an economy round-trip airfare and hotel accommodation for one designated person, subject to advance approval and plan limits.

Trip Interruption Protection

If a covered illness or injury interrupts your trip, eligible additional transportation expenses may be covered. Certain situations involving infectious disease, quarantine, felonious assault, or qualifying terrorism, war, or epidemic/pandemic warnings may also qualify, subject to the policy's conditions and limits.

Baggage & Personal Effects

The plan provides up to $500 per Trip Period, with a maximum of $100 per bag or Personal Effect, for covered baggage and personal effects losses. Covered personal effects can include items such as clothing, jewelry, passports, computer equipment, cameras, and mobile devices, subject to exclusions and documentation requirements.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Eligible outpatient prescription drugs and medications may be covered while traveling, with the benefit providing up to $5,000 per Trip Period for outpatient prescription drugs outside the U.S., subject to the plan's requirements, exclusions, and maximums.

TRAVEL INSURANCE QUESTIONS

Answers Before You Travel

  • What is travel medical insurance?

Travel medical insurance provides coverage for eligible medical expenses and certain travel-related situations that occur while you are traveling outside your Home Country. The Single Trip Platinum plan includes benefits for eligible medical services, emergency transportation, trip interruption, baggage, prescriptions, and other covered expenses.

  • Does travel insurance cover medical emergencies outside the United States?

Yes. The plan provides coverage for eligible Covered Expenses incurred outside the United States, subject to the plan's deductible, benefit limits, exclusions, and other terms.

  • Does travel insurance cover emergency medical evacuation?

The Single Trip Platinum plan includes Emergency Medical Evacuation when the applicable conditions are met. If a covered person experiences a qualifying life-threatening or limb-threatening condition and adequate medical facilities are unavailable locally, the plan may arrange transportation to an appropriate medical facility.

  • How long can I have coverage?

The maximum Trip Coverage Period is the first 182 consecutive days of a trip. The coverage is intended for temporary travel and cannot be used to establish continuous or long-term coverage abroad.

  • Do I need to purchase travel insurance before leaving the United States?

Yes. The plan requires the initial purchase to be made in the Home Country before departure. Coverage is not intended to be purchased after a medical need has already arisen or become reasonably apparent.

  • Are pre-existing conditions covered?

The plan states that pre-existing conditions are covered as any other condition, subject to the terms and exclusions of the policy. This does not mean every treatment or medical expense related to a pre-existing condition is automatically covered.

  • Does travel insurance cover lost baggage?

The plan provides baggage and personal effects coverage up to $500 per Trip Period, limited to $100 per bag or Personal Effect. Certain property and types of loss are excluded, so the full Certificate of Coverage should be reviewed before relying on this benefit.

  • Does travel insurance cover trip interruptions?

Certain post-departure trip interruptions may be covered when caused by qualifying illness, injury, infectious disease or quarantine situations, felonious assault, or certain documented terrorism, war, or epidemic/pandemic circumstances. Coverage is subject to specific requirements and limits.

  • Is travel insurance the same as regular health insurance?

No. The certificate specifically states that this plan is not qualifying health coverage or Minimum Essential Coverage under the Affordable Care Act. It is designed for eligible temporary travel outside the United States and is subject to its own terms, limitations, and exclusions.
